Tuesdays with Dorie!

I stumbled on Tuesdays with Dorie while in class one day perusing other baking blogs. The recipes and pictures were incredibly tempting, so of course, I ordered a copy of the requisite Baking, from My Home to Yours cookbook. Now that I have it in my possession, I'm even more blown away.

This week is my first chance to participate, and they picked a positively irresistible recipe!

Peanut Butter Torte on pages 282-283

Of course, I was still suffering from exam-time brain mush when I made it, so there were some unplanned modifications. I love the way it turned out though! I accidentally added an additional 1/2 cup of cream in the beginning, and I think the end result was lighter and a little less rich. Still it was plenty rich and delicious. The sad effect of this is that it is a bit too mushy when it has been out of the fridge for a bit, so if you do this, definitely cut right out ofthe fridge.

I also made the crust with chocolate-filled oreos, and it is wonderful. I could eat just the crust and be incredibly happy.

Looks great! Yes, I agree it should be served right out of the fridge.

Welcome to TWD! Try serving it out of the freezer. YUM.

ST: Thanks!!!

Rebecca: That didn't even occur to me. I bet it would be fantastic!

I don't think I've seen chocolate filled Oreos, but I don't buy a lot of cookies. They sound really yummy. Don't feel bad--I had some unplanned modifications in the filling as well. It looks like your torte still turned out great. Welcome to the group!

You know TWD is the right place for you when you think that adding extra cream would make it 'lighter!' Nice job!

Amy: I tend to assume that more chocolate is generally better, as a rule.

Di: They are amazing! Thanks so much! I think that unplanned modifications are part of the fun.

BB: Haha! I hope so!

CJ: Thanks!

Christine: Thanks! Yay for us new kids!

Cara: Thanks! I just got grades back, and they are always such a surprise. I had some that were better than expected, and some worse. I guess it all evens out.

Heather: Thanks!!!

MA: Thanks!

GN: Thanks! The next one will definitely be frozen. ;)

Mara: I had the same problem. I discovered the greatness of freezing right after I polished off the last of my torte. I guess that just means that I should probably make more. ;) I'm so excited that we're starting TWD!

I went to law school (way back when ) and I am impressed that you made it during finals. I recall living on pretzels, grapes and diet coke for two weeks. Welcome to the group!

BwtB: Ah, law school. I think I HAD to make it during finals. Sure, it led to a few unplanned alterations, but I think it made me a little more sane. I'm terrified, thinking of entering the real world, and being too tired at the end of the day to bake/cook. I don't understand how people who are really out of the house all day have any energy left at the end of the day!

I'm in PMBR bar prep classes from 9-3:30 now, and I feel like the entire day is gone by the time I go to the gym, get home, and take a shower!

I did the same thing with the cream, at least I had gotten the large container.

Elizabeth said...

Michelle: No kidding! I was very glad that I still had enough cream left for the ganache.
